About Evan Folds
Founder of Progress Earth
Evan Folds started Progress Earth in 2003 after meeting a BioDynamic farmer, and reading a book called Secrets of the Soil.
As he explains it, "I always felt there was more to life than what I was being told, but I didn't know what I was looking for until I found it. When I met people and discovered resources for information that validated these feelings for me it was a completely inspiring and powerful experience. It is this experience I'm hoping Progress Earth can deliver for others."
How could we expend so much energy educating ourselves only to learn, in many instances, the opposite of what we actually need to know? As Folds says, "I have degrees from a major University and learned more from a conversation and reading a book than I ever did in school."
Once armed with a perspective that allows one to view life from a natural perspective it becomes painfully obvious how misguided and materialistic our modern ways have become.
There had to be a way to collectively make the vital connection that our ability to think determines the quality of our lives, and that our ability to think is directly related to the food we eat. Upon contemplation of this his life's work became jiving the benefits and necessities of business with that of the balance of sustainable living systems.
Folds first business Progressive Gardens was started shortly after completion of his college studies with the goal of educating people about how to grow food locally and nutritiously.
Folds believes that farming and producing nutrient dense living food are the foundation on which we can build a reasonable and responsible society for the future.
"We must produce more and consume less", says Folds. "We're experimenting on ourselves with deliberate public policies such as water fluoridation, USDA subsidies, genetically modified crops and animals (GMO), and so much more. We know better than this, so let's change it."
Folds business ventures are born from the idea that there are more healthy and efficient ways to garden and produce food, and more responsible ways for humans to interact with the Earth. He believes that if people are presented with truth and an opportunity to act on it, that our collective perspective changes and we all win.
Folds envisions Progress Earth as a vehicle for this enlightenment. "One thing is for sure, we all need to wake up. To survive and prosper we must live with Nature, not against her," says Folds. "We must wake up to our spiritual potentials and move past the dominance of materialism in our thought, action, and scientific investigation. We can do better, and we will."
Evan is a prolific writer, contributing to Maximum Yield and Urban Garden, the premier indoor & home food production magazines for hobby growers, enthusiasts and health activists.
He is also a board member on the Progressive Gardening Trade Association (www.pgta.org), an international organization of retailers and related businesses bringing earth-friendly, water-wise and organic products and practices to the gardening community. Evan has a BS in Biology and a Religion degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He resides with his wife and children in Wilmington, NC.
